VALLE d' AOSTA

Aosta valley (Valle d'Aosta) is the smallest region in Italy, it is located in the extreme north of the peninsula and is scarcely populated. It has an exclusively mountainous territory. Many of the highest tops of our Alps are located in its territory, for example Mont Blanc which reaches 4810m. in height, Mount Cerrvino 4.478m. and Mount Rosa 4.634 m. high.
The region takes its name from its main valley which was formed by the Dora Baltea river. The region of Valle d'Aosta has only one province which is Aosta, also the capital city. It is one of the autonomous regions of the country; Italian and French are spoken in this region.

Tourism in Aosta Valley.
Tourism is the main source of income of the region of Valle d'Aosta thanks to the conformation of its territory, the natural beauties and wonderful landscapes.
Aosta, a city of Roman origins (Augusta Praetoria), with its archeological area, mount Cervino and the Gran Paradiso park, shouldn't be missed. The castles here are visited very often and the cuisine is appreciated by many. There are famous tourist resorts such as Gressoney and Courmayeur with modern tourist accommodations. Ayas is near Mount Rosa and Pila, it is a very good and recent tourist centre.
