PIEMONTE

Located in the north-western part of the peninsula, Piedmont is one of the largest Italian regions. It is surrounded by the Alps and its territory is almost half mountainous and about 40% hilly, the rest are plains. The highest tops of this region reach 4634 m. with Mount Rosa, but there are also other mountains which reach great heights, such as the Gran Paradiso. The quantity of mountains give origin to a good presence of important rivers, to mention a few: the Po, Tanaro, Dora Baltea and the Ticino.
In Piemonte there is also one of the largest lakes in Italy, the Major Lake. The capital city of the region is Turin, whereas the other provinces are: Cuneo, Vercelli, Novara, Alessandria, Asti, Verbano-Cusio-Ossola.

Tourism in Piedmont.
Tourism in Piedmont is well developed thanks to the countless mountain resorts such as the Sestriere, Sauze d'Oulx, Macugnaga, Pragelato, Claviere, Limone, Bardonecchia and many more.
A good percentage of tourism is related to the cuisine and the so-called wine and food routes, since Piemonte disposes of traditional areas such as Langhe and the area of Alba, extremely visited during the white truffle period. In these same areas the excellent wines of Piemonte, loved and greatly demanded by wine intenders, are produced: the Barbera d'Alba, Nebbiolo delle Langhe, Grignolino, Dolcetto d'Alba and the Barolo are just some of these.
