LAZIO
The
region of Latium (Lazio) is located in the central part of Italy and it
confines with the Tyrrhenian Sea on the western side. Its territory is
mainly made up of hills although it has a small part of mountains and
plains. In the territory of Latium there is also the Tevere, which is
one of the most important rivers in Italy.
The capital city of the region is Rome, known
throughout the world as the "eternal city" which is also our
Capital City, very important for its history and its monuments which are
visited every year by thousands of tourists. Other provinces of the region
are: Latina, Rieti, Frosinone and Viterbo. The name of the region derives
from the population which lived in it, the ancestors of the ancient Romans,
the Latins (Latium). Latium confines with Toscana, Umbria, Marche, Abruzzo,
Molise and Campania, apart from the Tyrrhenian Sea.

One of the most important fields of the Latium region and in particular
of the capital Rome is tourism which benefits from the monuments and the
immense artistic, archaeological, architectural heritage of the capital
and also of the close Vatican City, the Holy See of our Pope, also visited
